Hi. I am Larry Skagen, owner of Skagen Construction Services located in Austin, Texas. I started my General Contracting business after the economic climate changed in the aftermath of 9-11 and I found myself unexpectedly unemployed at the start of 2002. Formerly, I had been a Project Superintendent / Estimator / Manager for a Commercial General Contracting Company that had been doing business in Central Texas for 18 years and went out of business in Austin in 2002.

The business climate did not seem to lend itself to my becoming employed so I decided to take my over 35 years of construction expertice and use that to fulfill a longtime dream of having my own business. I have a very broad and deep background in large commercial interior construction, hospitals, million square foot tilt ups, etc., along with commercial and residential general construction. Thus I felt the name of my company should be nonspecific and that way I could just do anything that any customer needed to have accomplished.

My goal was to always be able to say, “yes we do that” to every client. I wanted to be like my grandfather, who immigrated from Norway, and made his way as a reputable homebuilder in Oregon without ever advertising, just word of mouth about his quality construction. We have accomplished this by maintaining a stream of business over the past 4 years and have never advertised; no signs, no ads, no yellow pages or t-shirts, just good old-fashioned word of mouth from jobs well done.

With that approach we have completed a 5000 square foot two story commercial remodel in Houston, several room additions, foundation waterproofing and sidewalk repairs on a 100 year old Historical home, many kitchen and bath remodels, insurance repairs to siding and roofs, along with whole house repaints; including removal of 10mil plus old exterior paint, interior remodels and a variety of commercial remodel work.

That being said, I felt it was finally time to expand our horizons and advertise via the internet.
